What categories of personal data will Volvo Penta obtain?

Volvo Penta will process the following categories of personal data if provided by you when registering your personal account; your name, address, telephone number, email address, gender, and company. Your name, address, and email address are required; all other information is optional.

You are also requested to provide information whether you are above 16 years old and thereby of a legal age to make a purchase.

We also process information about your order history.

In some cases and due to local laws in some countries, the purchaser’s tax region, tax code, occupation, national ID or passport number and/or social security number may be legally required. If you live in a country where such information is required by law, you will be requested to provide this information as well. Volvo Penta will not use this information but the Business Partner (the seller) is required by law to report this data to legal and governmental authorities. If you purchase part(s), this data will be disclosed to your Business Partner (the seller) from whom you purchased part(s) so that the Business Partner is able to comply with its legal obligations.

When you access the Website, your web browser is technically configured to automatically transmit the following data (log data) to our web server, which we then capture in log files; date of access, time of access, URL of the referring website, file retrieved, data volume transmitted, browser type and version, operating system, IP address and the domain name of your internet access provider.

Volvo will process your personal data for the following purposes and on the following legal basis:

When you register a personal account, your name, address, e-mail address, gender, telephone number and your usage data (username, password) will be stored and processed. You will have to confirm that you are above 16 years old. The Website allows you to use your e-mail address and your personal password to log into your account and place orders with a Business Partner (seller) of your choice.

Volvo Penta will process the aforementioned data on the legal basis that it is necessary in order to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract with the Business Partner from whom you will purchase part(s).

Volvo Penta will use this data for creating and managing your personal account and to confirm that you are of legal age to purchase. We will also use this data to process the order and communicate with the Business Partner from whom you purchased part(s) and your selected Service Dealer if you have chosen to pick up your part(s) at a Service Dealer.

Volvo Penta will process data related to your order history but only on an anonymized and aggregated basis. Such anonymized and aggregated order history data is analyzed purely for statistical purposes in order to improve the Website, our service and product offering. Volvo Penta will process your order history data on the legal basis of legitimate interest. Volvo Penta’s legitimate interests include the interest to evaluate, develop and improve our services, products and systems.

Log data (as defined above) is necessary for technical purposes in order to correctly deliver the content requested by you and log data collection is an unavoidable aspect of using websites. The log data is also anonymized and then analyzed purely for statistical purposes in order to improve our Website and its underlying functionality. Volvo Penta will process your log data on the legal basis legitimate interest. We will process your order history on behalf of the Business Partner (the seller) from whom you have purchased part(s). In such cases, we process this information on behalf of the Business Partner but we do not use it ourselves. What happens if you do not provide Volvo Penta with any personal data?

If you do not provide the required personal data to us such as your name, address, and e-mail address when registering an account, you may not purchase part(s) from a Business Partner on the Website.

In certain countries, you are required by local law to provide information such as your tax region, tax code, occupation, national ID or passport number and/or social security number when you make a purchase. If you do not provide us with this information when it is stated as required, you may not purchase part(s) from a Business Partner on the Website.

How will Volvo Penta share your personal data?

We will not pass on your personal data to third parties, with the exception of third parties performing services on our behalf.

If you purchase part(s), we’ll share your name, address and telephone number (if provided) with the Volvo Penta dealer (the seller). Your financial data related to the payment transaction will be provided to the third party company that process the payment. Additional privacy information may be provided to you by the Volvo Penta dealer (the seller) and any other third party involved in the purchase transaction.



Please note that the Business Partner (the seller) may report your tax region, tax code, occupation, national ID or passport number and/or social security number related to an order placed by you to any legal or governmental entity when required by law, or as necessary to remit certain taxes in the course of processing payments.

Will your personal data be transferred outside EU/EEA by Volvo Penta?

Volvo Penta will normally not share your personal data with anyone outside of the Volvo Group, unless required by law or regulation. However, Volvo Penta may, where necessary for processing the personal data, share your personal data with other Volvo Group companies, including companies outside the European Union or the European Economic Area EU/EEA. Volvo Penta may also, where necessary for processing the personal data, share your personal data with third party companies and suppliers including companies and suppliers outside the EU/EEA

Volvo Penta will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to provide adequate levels of protection for your personal data as required by applicable data protection laws. For how long will Volvo Penta keep your personal data?

If you have registered an account at our website your data will be stored until you delete your account under My Profile / Settings or My Profile / Forget me.

Your order history will be stored for twelve years. We keep the order history on behalf of the Business Partner in order to enable the Business Partner to comply with legal warranty and product liability obligations.

Your data protection rights

You have the right to request from Volvo Penta information about the personal data processed about you and access to such personal data. You also have a right to request rectification of your personal data if this is incorrect and request erasure of your personal data. This access is granted to you on the Website after you have logged in and selected the option called My Profile / Settings or My Profile / Forget me.

Further, you have a right to request restriction of the processing of your personal data meaning that you request Volvo Penta to limit its processing of your personal data under certain circumstances. There is also a right for you to object to the processing based on legitimate interest or processing for direct marketing. You also have the right to data portability (transfer of your personal data to another controller) if Volvo Penta’s processing of your personal data is based on consent or contractual obligation and is automated.
